Another two submissions have have been selected for publication in our premiere issue. As soon as everything has been made official, we’ll announce who the authors are and feature some of their work right here on our website.

We’re still steadily receiving submissions, thankfully making our job a little harder every day. Keep it up folks.

The first officially confirmed contributor to The Ashen Eye is Vampire poet Aquilla Rage.

Her dark and sensual poetry sharpens the senses and evokes visions of places whose beauty can only be truly appreciated after dusk. Her captivating words transform into emotions and for just a brief moment we can even smell the surroundings she has drawn us into. Aquilla Rage is one of those talented people who has the ability to paint elaborate and enchantingly sinister dreamscapes in but a few words.

We could waste many more words attempting to describe her work, but it’s better to simply experience it for yourself:

Waiting
by Aquilla Rage

I sat next to you all night,
moonlight shone through the stained glass
casting soft indigo shades on your tomb
hoping you would rise to walk with me once more
fearing that I would be alone once again in the darkness

Recent snow had fallen making the night still
only the sound of wolves in the distance called out
they also cry a longing song,

I stroked your catafalque softly as once I caressed your cheek
the marble as arctic as your touch, a sweet memory
laying my head against it, I listen, waiting for you to emerge
ready for absolution, to embrace you once more

but no sound, no flicker of vital force

I sat next to you all night
as I will for eternity, and linger

This is but a taste of things to come and another one of her magical works will be featured in the premiere issue of The Ashen Eye.

If this poem has made you hungry for more, you can find more of her works on her website www.aquillarage.com and on her MySpace page http://myspace.com/aquillarage.

A collection of her dark words, called “The Auctoritas Doctrine”, is available in print. If you would like to order a copy, please click on the banner below.

We are pleased to announce that the first work, a poem, has been accepted for publication in our premiere issue!

It’s part of our mission to promote the works of our contributors to the best of our ability. Therefor, we plan to announce whose work it is and feature an article about the author on our website soon, so keep an eye out for that!

Submissions are steadily flowing in and we’re having a blast reviewing them. There’s still lots spaces to be filled, so keep submitting your works! All of our MySpace friends who submit some of their work will also be added to our top friends to help them get a little bit of extra exposure.

Less than a week has passed since our website and MySpace page went online and the first submissions have already landed in our mailbox. We’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone who already submitted some of their work. So far we’ve seen some excellent stuff. Thank you all for your enthusiasm.

Keep ‘em coming people! Our editors are hungry…

The Ashen Eye can now be reached on MySpace via http://www.myspace.com/asheneye. If you’re also a MySpace user, drop us a line and/or help us spread the word by adding us to your friends.

Fiction And Poetry – We’re looking for original works of short fiction and poetry with a darker side, in any genre. Just as every person has a dark side, so does every genre of fiction. Maybe you’ve written a mystery, thriller or noir piece dealing with the darker side of the human psyche. Maybe you’re creating supernatural, psychological or even extreme/splatter horror. Perhaps you’re more interested in the darker side of erotica, humor, crime, suspense, science fiction or fantasy…

The possibilities are endless. The Ashen Eye welcomes them all.

Artwork – Of course, no magazine is complete without stunning artwork. That’s why we would like to invite those who create art with a darker side to showcase their work on our cover and inside our magazine. Any category of artwork (traditional, digital, photography, etc.) will be considered.

If you would like to see your work published in The Ashen Eye, please visit our Submissions section for detailed guidelines. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through e-mail at editor@ashen-eye.com
